Parramatta’s Central Library was built in Civic Place in
1964 (cost 40,000 pounds). State library allocated a grant to Parramatta City
Council for building extension to Parramatta Library. Extension to the library
was done in 1979 by Architects Buckland, Druce and Harley Pty Ltd. In 1979,
Parramatta Library was largest regional library service in the state. It was serving Baulkham Hills, Holroyd.
In 1988, Baulkham Hills Council decided to split from
Parramatta Council and have their own four libraries to provide better service
to Shire residents.
